Who knew that Jane Zawadowski's activist career would start with trash in high school and continue with trash in her 30s? She founded her high school's recycling program, manually filling her family's International Harvester Scout with paper, and dumping it in the Pueblo, Colorado downtown recycling facility. As a mother, years later, she concerns herself with proper disposal of poop and pee in Chicagoland's municipal waste systems. Ms. Zawadowski's formal career has spanned the fields of community organizing, criminal justice, and fair trade advocacy. While a resident of the Chicago Austin neighborhood, she helped revive the 3M multiblock block club. She currently serves on the board of Ten Thousand Villages Oak Park, working to bring a fair trade storefront to the Oak Park area. She is a mother of two boys, ages 2 and 4, and expecting her and her husband's third child in July 2007.
