Lynda V. Mapes is an environmental reporter for the Seattle Times. She has worked as a reporter for daily newspapers for more than 20 years on both sides of the country and specializes in coverage of Native American tribes and regional environmental issues.
She has won national and regional awards for her coverage of science and the environment, and is the author of Washington, the Spirit of the Land, (Voyageur Press, 1999, 2002) and a forthcoming book, Breaking Ground, about the inadvertant discovery of an ancient Indian village in Port Angeles, due out next year from the University of Washington Press. A New York native, she has lived in Washington State since 1992 and been a reporter at the Seattle Times for 10 years.
