Recycled and Natural Fibers in Ford Vehicles

Ford Motor Company

ford_vehiclesThe use of recycled and renewable content in Ford vehicles is increased year by year and model by model.  Ford takes a holistic approach to sustainable vehicle development and design, going beyond fuel efficiency and what’s under the hood by incorporating sustainable materials and processes throughout their vehicles.

In line with this effort, Ford is supporting Green Festival efforts to reduce landfill deposition by sponsoring Resource Recovery Stations. Plastics like the ones collected at these stations are recycled and reused in Ford vehicles.

Are GMOs the Next “Pink Slime?”

Ken Roseboro
Editor, The Organic & Non-GMO Report

occupymonsantoWant to know more about the dangers of GMOs? Consult with the leading expert, Jeffrey Smith. author of "Seeds of Deception" and founder of the Institute for Responsible Technology, Saturday May 5th at 5:15pm on the Main Stage at Chicago Green Festival.

The battle over “pink slime” or, as the beef industry prefers, “lean finely textured beef” continues to rage in the media. A news article, a food blogger, and celebrity chef created a perfect social media storm causing food industry rejection of the not-too-appetizing-looking product that is made from beef scraps and sprayed with ammonium hydroxide to kill bacteria.

The lost business forced the product’s manufacturer, Beef Products, Inc. to close three of its four plants, sparking a backlash from supporters such as Iowa Governor Terry Brandstad who is leading a counterattack called “Dude It’s Beef” and calling for a congressional investigation of who organized the smear campaign against it.

Green Festival began 2012 with a bang, celebrating Earth Day weekend in NYC at Javits Center North. As part of our first NYC event, participants ate, drank, shopped and discovered their way to a greener economy and the opportunity to embrace healthier, eco-conscious and socially-just lifestyles. nyc-overviewHappy Earth Day!

Thousands participated Saturday, and the celebration of sustainability continues today at NYC Green Festival! Head on down to Javits North and celebrate Earth Day with fantastic speakers, exhibitors, kids eco-crafts, earth friendly fashion, local vegetarian organic food and more!

Saturday was amazing as NYC, Brooklyn, Queens, and beyond came together under one roof to celebrate community, health, and leading the way to a greener tomorrow. As speaker Frances Moore Lappé noted in her presentation, "hope is not what we find in evidence, but what we become in action."
