Now Is the Time to Demand GM Food Labeling!

Ken Roseboro,
Editor, The Organic & Non-GMO Report

GMOlabelingWant to know more about the dangers of GMOs? Consult with the leading expert, Jeffrey Smith. author of "Seeds of Deception" and founder of the Institute for Responsible Technology, Saturday April 21 at 11:15am on the Main Stage at NYC Green Festival, and Saturday May 5th at 5pm on the Main Stage at Chicago Green Festival.

Labeling of genetically modified foods is a hot topic. In my 12-plus years covering the genetically modified food controversy, I’ve never seen so much grassroots action to get mandatory labeling of GM foods.

Since last fall there has been a Right2Know March from New York City to Washington, DC, an online petition to the Food and Drug Administration calling for GM food labeling that has generated nearly 1 million comments, an initiative in California to put a labeling law on the ballot for this year’s election, federal labeling legislation introduced by Congressman Dennis Kucinich, a letter to the FDA from 55 members of Congress demanding labeling. Also, lawmakers in 18 states have submitted bills to label GM foods.

The Magic Mystery Healing Tour: A Journey into the Evolver Social Movement

By Jonathan Talat Phillips
Evolver

evolverJonathan Talat Phillips is author of “The Electric Jesus: The Healing Journey of a Contemporary Gnostic,” co-founder of Evolver.net and Reality Sandwich, and coordinates the 40+ Spore chapters in the Evolver Social Movement. Join author and Evolver.net cofounder Daniel Pinchbeck, Chris Lindstrom of Berkshares, and Sustainability Officer at Occupy.com, Evan Wagner, for "Evolver Salon:  Re-imagining Currencies: The Future of Money," Saturday 4pm on Stage C.

It’s February 17 and I’m standing, exhausted and elated, in front of a full room at Gatsby Books in Long Beach, CA. Once again, we’ve filled up the seats and people are standing in the back as I deliver my opening line, “If you told me several years, I’d be here talking about Jesus, plant medicines, yoga, and the environment, I would have laughed. Back then, I was a skeptical materialist who thought political action alone could solve our problems.”

But perhaps even more incredible than tales of mystical awakening is the notion that here I am on the final night of my Electric Jesus West Coast book tour, knowing we have shattered the odds.

Van Jones pulls no punches in this timely, election year offering. Part memoir, part manifesto, Rebuild the Dream offers both a constructive critique of the Obama era and a powerful plan to renew the American Dream.

As a grassroots outsider who became a White House insider, Jones analyzes the social movements that elected Obama. He explains why the "hope" bubble quickly burst after 2008, and why the Tea Party movement and Occupy Wall Street arose.

Jones then advances creative proposals to heal our democracy and create millions of jobs. Jones is the first former Obama White House official to write a book about his experiences.

Colorful, controversial and candid, Jones speaks for the first time about his personal journey through the halls of power

This provocative book elevates the conversation for rebuilding Dr. King’s Dream for all Americans in the 21st Century.

Wear a Better Story: SustainU Takes a New Approach to Clothing

sustainuChris Yura first understood the power of clothing as a freshman fullback on the Notre Dame football team. He recalls walking out on the field and looking up at the student section: “Looking at that sea of green T-shirts, I felt this powerful connection. I realized those shirts stood for something, they tied us together on a very deep level.”

After college, Chris found himself in the fashion industry where he soon realized that those shirts did not exactly represent the values of his school, classmates and alumni that wore them. “I discovered that most clothing is made using environmentally harmful methods, and that was often paired with the exploitation of the people who make apparel.”
