Democracy Now!’s Amy Goodman on Main Stage Nov. 10 at 12 pm

Democracy Now!

amy goodman silenced majorityAmy Goodman, host of the daily, independent global news hour Democracy Now!, will speak and sign her latest book, The Silenced Majority: Stories of Uprisings, Occupations, Resistance, and Hope, Saturday, November 10, at 12 noon.

Goodman joins San Francisco Green Festival as part of the 100-city Election 2012 Silenced Majority Tour. For the past two months, Goodman and the Democracy Now! news team have broadcast live from across the nation, going beyond the mainstream media’s obsessive focus on the latest poll numbers and candidate gaffes to examine how people are organizing; the impacts of restrictive voter ID laws that are making it harder to vote; and how the massive influx of campaign cash following the Citizens United decision is changing how our democracy works.

A Tale of Two Studies

Two recent published studies on the benefits of organic foods and the dangers of genetically modified foods have made headlines worldwide. Besides the controversial findings, the studies are noteworthy in the way the media and scientists reacted to them.

Why Prop 37 is a win-win proposition

ca_right_to_know

Californians will soon decide whether to pass or reject Proposition 37, which would require mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods.

Support for Prop 37 has recently fallen 18 points due to a one-million-dollar-a-day advertising campaign by opponents. These included Monsanto and other members of the “Big Six” biotech companies who had accounted for one-half of the $40 million raised to defeat the initiative.

Using Recycled and Renewable Materials in Ford Vehicles

Ford Motor Company

ford_laFord will be turning its ignition on at the San Francisco and Los Angeles Green Festival next month, bringing their green line of vehicles straight to you. Don’t miss your chance to take one of Ford’s electric or hybrid vehicles for a spin. You’ll have an opportunity to test drive the Ford C-MAX Hybrid, C-MAX Energi and Focus Electric, Ford’s all-electric, zero-emissions vehicle.

Ford is on a mission to increase the use of recycled and renewable content year by year and model by model. You’ll see this with the produce stand display in the Ford Pavilion, which demonstrates everything that goes into a door panel in Ford vehicles – Soy, wheat straw, sweet potatoes, corn and sugarcane.
