Born in Mendocino County, California Tony Fernandez was destined to work in the Redwood industry. As a freshman in high school he won the California State Woodworking competition and decided he would pursue his passion in the industry. At age 14 he began working as a garden products assembler at California Leisure Products, a Redwood gazebo manufacturer in Ukiah, Ca and by age 17 he was supervising 15 employees and worked his way up to "lead designer "in the model shop. At age 25 he started his own company, Wood Products Unlimited, specializing in manufacturing high- end children's furniture using post -consumer mill ends from local lumber mills. As demand increased he was solicited and, eventually, hired by Advanced Manufacturing and Development who specialized in manufacturing games for the Atari Corporation. As the reclaimed industry started to blossom in the mid 90's he began pursuing alternatives for manufacturing products from those materials. In 1998 he left AM&D and went to work for North Cal Wood Products as International Sales Operations and Development Manager. Working closely with Frank VanVranken the CEO of North Cal Wood Products they developed the Recycled Products Division and dove in to the deconstruction of the oldest and largest Redwood sawmill in the world, Mill B at the Pacific Lumber Company in Scotia, Ca. This project spurred many other deconstruction projects all over northern California and catapulted North Cal to becoming a leader in the reclaimed Redwood industry. During his career at North Cal, Tonyhas teamed up with organizations such as the USGBC, The California Redwood Association, and FSC, and donates as much of his time to developing wood products from post consumer recycled wood sources through Hilltop Recovery Services in Lake County California.

Yody Gladys Moran Trillo was born in a rural community in the Huancavelica Province in the Andes Mountains of Peru. This region was heavily affected by the armed conflict that lasted from 1980 to 2000. At a young age, Yody and her family moved to the city of Huancavelica to escape the violence that was afflicting the countryside. She met and married her husband when she was 15 and soon after had her first child. Yody and her husband lived, barely scraping by, on his salary for many years. Yody began to knit sweaters, scarves and other items to sell in the local markets to help bring in a little extra money for her family. She connected with the Bridge of Hope Fair Trade project in 2003 and invited two other mothers to help her with a first order. As the orders began to grow, so did Yody’s group. El Mercurio (named after the colonial mine in her neighborhood in Huancavelica), grew to eight, then 17, and today, has over 30 members. El Mercurio has been growing steadily during the last few years, creating finger puppets, stuffed animals and more. Yody and the other members of El Mercurio have truly been inspirations, rising out of a violent past and becoming successful and respected women in their community.

Joe Trippi – heralded on the cover of The New Republic as the man who “reinvented campaigning” – is widely recognized as one of America’s leading and most influential political strategists.
Born in California, Trippi began his political career working on Edward M. Kennedy’s presidential campaign in 1980. His work in presidential politics continued with the campaigns of Walter Mondale, Gary Hart, Richard Gephardt, Howard Dean and, most recently, John Edwards.
Trippi has run and consulted on numerous presidential, senate, congressional, gubernatorial and mayoral races. These include the successful campaigns of U.S. Senator Alan Cranston of California, Mayor Tom Bradley of Los Angeles, Governor Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, and Congressman Tim Holden of Pennsylvania.
In 2004, as the National Campaign Manager for Howard Dean’s presidential campaign, Trippi pioneered the use of online technology to organize what became the largest grassroots movement in presidential politics. Through his innovative use of the Internet for small-donor fundraising, “Dean for America” raised more money than any Democratic presidential campaign to that point – all with donations averaging less than $100.
According to The Atlantic magazine, Trippi’s influence on Democratic Party politics has been profound and lasting: “The small-dollar Internet donor base attracted by Dean and flogged relentlessly by Trippi has transformed the party’s fundraising. Every single campaign uses Trippi-patented tactics to raise money. The men and women Joe Trippi cultivated on Dean’s staff have stormed the gates and occupy positions of power in major party and campaign offices.”
In 2008, Trippi signed on with Senator John Edwards’ presidential bid as a senior advisor, focusing on messaging, Internet strategy and online engagement. He was also responsible for producing the campaign’s television spots, which were widely applauded as “innovative” and “highly creative” and among the best spots of the 2007-2008 election cycle.
Trippi also has an extensive international resume. In 1993, he worked for then PASOK leader Andrea Papandreou’s successful campaign of Prime Minister of Greece, as well as for his son, George Papandreou, in 2007. Trippi advised former British Prime Minister Tony Blair during his successful bid for a third term in 2005. In 2006, he worked for Romano Prodi on his winning race for Prime Minister of Italy. In 2007, Trippi consulted on text messaging strategies to the opposition Action Congress (AC) Party in Nigeria.
In addition to his political work, Trippi has consulted with a number of leading corporations including MasterCard, Toyota, DaimlerChrysler, SES Americom, LabCorp, IBM, Lionsgate Films, BestBuy, MSNBC, Wave Systems, and Progeny Linux Systems. Trippi is especially acclaimed within the technology community. In 2004 he won Wired Magazine’s Rave Award for his use of innovative technology in politics.
